A question…

So this weekend, I served as a Judge for the Chelsea Community Fair Queen Competition. I was one of 5 people given the difficult task of sitting in judgement over 8 tremendously wonderful young ladies, all of whom were vying for the title of Chelsea Fair Queen 2005.

The event went very well, and it was an honor to be asked. During the private interview portion of the event, we had to ask questions of the contestants, and judge them on their responses.

I asked a question that prompted an unexpected response from one young lady. She began to answer, but the answer involved her grandmother, who is not doing well health-wise, and the poor young woman began to cry. After that, I didn’t ask anymore contestants that question, but later the other judges (we were all in the room together) said I should’ve, they thought it was a good question. (Well, it is, but I didn’t want to see anybody else cry, I wasn’t in the mood!)

SO. Since I didn’t get to hear a bunch of thought provoking answers, I’m asking all of YOU.

Imagine that God came to you and said “Hey there. Tomorrow, I’m gonna make the world a better place – I’m gonna do it by eliminating ONE FEAR that most people have. Which one do you think I should eliminate, and why?”

WHAT’S YOUR ANSWER?

Obviously there’s no right or wrong, I just think it’s interesting!

(P.S. Another judge made another contestant cry after that, so it wasn’t JUST me! It was just an emotional day for the young ladies!)

    • Walou, I totally would’ve voted for you. But remember, it’s not about the winning or losing, it’s how you play the game!
That’s what my basketball coach used to tell me when I stopped growing in 5th grade.
      Condescending bastard.

  1. Um…..fair queen??? Anywho…. okay, so one fear…just the fear of being alone…sorry, that’s a song…um, I say the fear of dying alone. really. Not a song. yup, that or war. Whatever. lol. lata,

    • “Um…..fair queen???”
Absolutely, Fair Queen. It’s a very cool thing, one of the reasons that I love living in a small community: there’s ACTUALLY a community! And community events!
Fear of Dying Alone! Very good fear. The young lady who started crying gave “Fear of Dying” as an answer, which of course immediately made her think of her grandmother and the tears began, but I thought it was a pretty good answer!

      • I would get rid of the “fear of failure”. People would be much more apt to go out there and try new things! I would’ve said fear of death, but that just seems ridiculous. A lot of people would be dying if they weren’t afraid that speeding bus could POSSIBLY hurt them.

        • Fear of Failure. Excellent. You’re right, think how much more we’d get done, how many dreams would be realized, and how many people would have less of those “If only I’d tried” issues!!
          Good one.
