This “Hide and Seek” type of Book Sharing is really cool.
I just think that this is such a neat thing, and I keep meaning to participate in it…like go and drop some books off in some random spots…but I’ve not done it yet. I think I may try and do it in the next week or so: we’re doing a little Spring cleaning, and I’ve got so many books that I’ve read and will not read again, yet think are worth sharing!
Has anyone out there heard of this, or participated in it? Just wondering!
I found a book once at Panera– found the site, left a few books around town :), and went to one get-together. I’ve since noticed Bookcrossing shelves in two other coffee shops. It’s a neat concept, but I did feel strange taking that first book– like I was stealing :).
The group here is very well established and organized but I didn’t get the concept of meeting– it’s not as if the members were reading the same books. But the folks who had started BookCrossing here were all old friends by the point I found it… it may be different there.
Cool – thanks Mary! I’m with you, I probably wouldn’t go to a meeting, but I love the idea of hiding and seeking books! I’m gonna drop a book off this week, and check the website to see if there are any laying around near me! π
I saw your entry via my Google alerts π
Yes, I’ve done it, and it’s awesome! You don’t always get a note that someone has found your book (in fact, the average catch rate for most BookCrossers is 10-15 ish % — they don’t have a computer, they’re suspicious, they put it on a shelf and forget about … the list goes on), but when you do, it often makes up for the ones you’re missing π See this journal entry (catch) I got. I didn’t even like the book in question, nor could I finish it! But it was a great find for the person who found it, and I love that journal entry.
I strongly encourage you to jump in! For more encouragement, check out the Site Watch forum.
Hi there! Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate your insight, I think the idea of this is very fun. I’m going to print out a label or two and do some “releasing” this week! π
