Quick Hits from NYC

On the subway last night, I spent an entire 25 minute train ride listening to a mid-20’s hipster explain to the lovely young lady who was with him all about how his “spiritual side has finally been allowed to blossom.” He went on non-stop about how “open he was to the universe, and to everyone in it now”, and by letting himself “take part in the world”, he was so much more in tune with the people around him. In the meantime, this poor young woman could not get a word in edgewise, and every time she spoke he shut her down and kept going on about how open he was to hearing others! Poor woman said about 3 sentences the whole trip, and didn’t get a chance to complete ONE of them! I spent the whole trip laughing to myself, and wishing she would tell him to shut up!

Yesterday, no rehearsal. My cast dressed up as two characters from the show, Nicodemus and Jane, and rode a float in the Gay Pride Parade. A ton of free marketing for the show! So, I did some work on the show, some errands, and some laundry, and then watched the Tigers complete a 3 game sweep of the Braves at the bar! Detroit, by the way, is now on top of the division, 2 games ahead of Cleveland. Go team.

Best Salad I’ve had so far in NY: Healthy Energy Salad at Plaza Lounge in Astoria. Mixed greens, onions, garbanzo beans, bean sprouts, gorgonzola cheese crumbles, tomato slices, all in a marvelous balsamic dressing, served with some fresh bread chunks to sop up the dressing…so good!

We start our “tech week” today for the show. Going to be a very, very busy week. Wish us luck!

I’ve had the freaking TITANIC song in my head for 2 weeks now. There’s a street musician (who actually plays in the subway station) that I go by everyday on my way to rehearsal – he plays the pan flute accompanied by a backup CD – and the song that he seems to be playing EVERYTIME I pass him is that Celine Dion song! “Neaaaaaaar, faaaaaaaaaar, whereverrrrrrrrrr you aaaaaare….” AAAGH! Get it out of my head!

  1. Maybe the Celiene Dion song is some kind of sign??
Like…uh, maybe your family is right there with you even though your “far, whever you are”? I dunno, I’m just trying to relate…
Dave seems to think that because he’s seen about 8 classic Camaro’s last week it entitles him to buy one…*smacks*

  2. I had “Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown” stuck in my head for two days thanks to a mall music station, but at least that was a good song to begin with. 😉
