Sunday Night Smorgasbord – just journalin’

What a week!
Opened a show. (Great audience response, I’m grateful for that.)
Wonderful Thanksgiving (Boy, was that family time and nap time needed!)
Prepped for starting rehearsals for my guest directing gig at Michigan State University… that starts next week. (Jinkies – who made my schedule?!) (Yes, I said Jinkies!)
Took steps toward recovering from a miserable sinus infection. (Man, I’m STILL only at about 80% – unbelievable! Somebody make these aches and coughs go away!)
Today was great:

Slept well last night, then went to church this morning and it was wonderful.
After church we went out for brunch and had some great food and family time, and as we were eating the snowstorm hit! Wow, did it snow. Well, we had tickets to see a play at Eastern Michigan University (The Snow Queen), but with the way the roads were we knew there was no way we were getting home to let the dog out and getting to E.M.U. in time, so we had to cancel our tickets. I imagine the weather did that to a fair amount of events this afternoon.

Still, being housebound in a snowstorm can be nice – a gentle fire in the fireplace, Christmas tree up and decorations properly placed, and my wonderful wife made one of my favorite dinners! The kids built a snowfort by building walls around the swingset/playstructure before dinner, and we relaxed with movies/books/studying the rest of the evening. The whole event was capped off by a short impromptu bit of sidewalk shoveling that turned into a 4-way snowball fight right before bedtime! Hearing my kids yell “You’re goin’ down, little man!!” still makes me laugh!

Miscellaneous!
Now that it’s been gone for a few days… I’m really craving another plate of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy!!
The past few weeks have been a great reminder of how lucky I am to be working with trustworthy, quality people.
My daughter is growing up too fast, and has some “Pre-teen” novels on her Christmas list that are way too “teen” and not enough “Pre-“… Santa’s gonna get a big veto notice on some of ’em.
Pushing Daisies has been cancelled. Too bad, it was unique, a lot of fun, visually beautiful and a neat approach to storytelling. Of course, that’s all probably why it got cancelled as well… stupid television.
World Aids Day is tomorrow. During the next 3 weeks of performances at Williamston Theatre we’ll be gathering donations for Equity Fights Aids.

Sunday Night Quote
The question of what needs to come next in the evolution of Williamston Theatre has been on my mind a lot lately.
We’ve done a lot in 2 1/2 years, and the next steps will be important.
What should those steps be? Many possibilities to pick from, but coming across this quote was really quite inspirational…

“Out of intense complexities intense simplicities emerge.”
Winston Churchill
(British orator, author and prime minister during World War II. 1874-1965)
