Sunday Miscellaneous

I spent the weekend at Otterbein College, in Westerville Ohio, working on scenes with students for their upcoming Senior Showcase performance. A lot of fun! Otterbein’s great, and I’ll return a couple of times over the next few months to keep working with them until they take the Showcase to New York to perform it for directors and agents.

Fighting a big headache tonight, but enjoying resting with some tea and the World Series! Rooting for the Rays just because they’re in the American League, but I think the Phillies are going to take the Series. (it was pretty cool, though, to see the Phillies pitcher hit his first career homerun! What a place to do it!)

Oy – it’s now 10 to 2 Phillies. I think it’s time to go to sleep and let my ibuprofen do what it does!

Eco-Daughter

My 10 year old daughter, on our way to school this morning:

“Dad. We were learning about how we have too few plants and grasses, and erosion is killing our ecosystems. I’ve decided that I’m going to get a pouch to wear around my waist, and I’m going to fill it with grass seed. Then, wherever I go, I’ll just sprinkle grass seed.”

My kids are problem solvers. πŸ™‚

RIDICULOUS FUN – Join in!!

This is going around LiveJournal, and it’s a lot of fun! Jump in, I’m looking forward to the responses! πŸ™‚

Invent a memory of me and post it in the comments. It can be anything you want, so long as it’s something that’s never happened.

Then, of course, post this to your journal and see what people would like to remember of you, only the universe failed to cooperate in making it happen so they had to make it up instead.

Home with a sick kid

Poor Max, he’s got a bit of a stomach bug. We were up a bunch last night and he stayed home from school today.

Even though it stops me from going in to work, and you never want your kid to be sick, there’s something to be said for laying around on a rainy day and chatting with your son.

I’ve been trying to remember when it was as a kid that I first became aware of all the issues surrounding who my friends were, who my “Best” friends were, who was not a gpod friend, and all that stuff. It’s amazing to listen to my little boy working through all of those issues in 3rd grade… The clichΓ© “They grow up fast” is amazingly accurate! I just hope I can be helpful with my guidance.

Great reviews so far!

Opening Weekend of Leaving Iowa at Williamston Theatre went quite well!

Interestingly, we wound up having NO reviewers on Opening Night, which is rare. Scheduling conflicts and traffic snafu’s wound up pushing all 3 of the reviewers to Saturday or Sunday of Opening Weekend.

Audiences so far seem to be really enjoying the show, and I’m pleased that both reviews that have come out from this weekend are very good as well.

A couple of quick quotes:

Tony Caselli’s direction and the designs by Vincent Mountain (set) and Ted Rhyner (lights) are delightfully simple and theatrical.

To call this an enjoyable night of theater is an understatement; it is heartfelt, hilarious and inspiring.

This play is so well done, from the insightful and hilarious script, superb and truthful acting and spot-on directing, it deserves more than a good review. A show like this deserves repeated viewings, preferably with the whole family carpooling to the theater in a station wagon.

There’s still one review left to be published; the Lansing State Journal should come out tomorrow.

In the meantime, here are links!

A nice Sunday

Some very nice auditions today for the Williamston Theatre production of The Effect Of Gamma Rays On Man In The Moon Marigolds. John Lepard is directing the show in January, and I’m really excited about it!

After those, stuck around the theatre for a little while to meet and greet some folks before the VERY full performance of Leaving Iowa. Audiences are really loving the show, and I’m really glad – it’s a big treat to have folks say “Man, that took me back to when I was a kid”, or “That was my Dad! That Dad was just like mine, wow.” I’ve said all along that one of the biggest goals of this show is that, after seeing it, I’d love for folks to come out of our theatre with the urge to call their loved ones just to chat and catch up.

Then, this evening, we had an absolutely fantastic time at Greenfield Village! They had an early Halloween event with Trick-or-Treating for kids, and the park was lit up with thousands of jack-o-lanterns, and FILLED with actors and wonderfully fun Halloween things (and candy!). Oh my gosh, so much fun. The kids had a blast, and watching them have a blast is always a blast for us parents! πŸ™‚ We went with my brother and sister and their families, and it was a great way to spend an evening! (AND they have a cool exhibit now that we couldn’t see this evening, but my brother and I are going back for in a couple of weeks: Out Of This World (Extraordinary Costumes From Film and Television)! I can’t wait! πŸ™‚

Friday!!!

The weather is beautiful, gas is down to $3.20 a gallon, and it’s Opening Night at Williamston Theatre! What more could a guy ask for?!

Well… I’ll tell ya… How about a new episode of Stargate tonight, a weekend filled with QFT*, auditions for a couple of our upcoming shows, the chance to sleep in on Saturday and a couple of scripts that I’m excited about reading and considering for next season?

Oh yes, I’ve got all that too!
