Quick hits from NYC

Not much journaling lately – directing this show has kept me very busy. We had our opening night last night, and the audience roared from top to bottom, so that was good! I’m seeing the show again today for any final notes, then heading home tomorrow!

The Tigers are sending 5 players to the All Star game! BUT: it could be 6. There’s one more fan vote, and Tiger pitcher Jeremy Bonderman needs your help! Use your cell phones, and text A1 to 36197. (A1 is the voting code for American League, 1st player alphabetically! Standard text msg rates apply, but you can vote as often as you like – thank goodness for my unlimited Text service!)

FLAP previews start tomorrow at Williamston Theatre! I can’t wait to get back and see how its going! It’s a great team, and I’m excited!

Went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art this week. Wow. Just wonderful. More journaling about just that soon, I hope.

A new family member…

Well, after 2 years of deliberating and begging (from the kids), and weighing options, it appears we will soon be the owners of a brand new puppy.

A Cockapoo – (a specially bred cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle)medium sized, hypoallergenic (for Jeanne). Only a few weeks old, we can’t bring her home until Mid-July.

I leave home for a couple of weeks, and this is what happens! *laughing*

Anybody know anything about cockapoos?

Quick Hits from NYC

On the subway last night, I spent an entire 25 minute train ride listening to a mid-20’s hipster explain to the lovely young lady who was with him all about how his “spiritual side has finally been allowed to blossom.” He went on non-stop about how “open he was to the universe, and to everyone in it now”, and by letting himself “take part in the world”, he was so much more in tune with the people around him. In the meantime, this poor young woman could not get a word in edgewise, and every time she spoke he shut her down and kept going on about how open he was to hearing others! Poor woman said about 3 sentences the whole trip, and didn’t get a chance to complete ONE of them! I spent the whole trip laughing to myself, and wishing she would tell him to shut up!

Yesterday, no rehearsal. My cast dressed up as two characters from the show, Nicodemus and Jane, and rode a float in the Gay Pride Parade. A ton of free marketing for the show! So, I did some work on the show, some errands, and some laundry, and then watched the Tigers complete a 3 game sweep of the Braves at the bar! Detroit, by the way, is now on top of the division, 2 games ahead of Cleveland. Go team.

Best Salad I’ve had so far in NY: Healthy Energy Salad at Plaza Lounge in Astoria. Mixed greens, onions, garbanzo beans, bean sprouts, gorgonzola cheese crumbles, tomato slices, all in a marvelous balsamic dressing, served with some fresh bread chunks to sop up the dressing…so good!

We start our “tech week” today for the show. Going to be a very, very busy week. Wish us luck!

I’ve had the freaking TITANIC song in my head for 2 weeks now. There’s a street musician (who actually plays in the subway station) that I go by everyday on my way to rehearsal – he plays the pan flute accompanied by a backup CD – and the song that he seems to be playing EVERYTIME I pass him is that Celine Dion song! “Neaaaaaaar, faaaaaaaaaar, whereverrrrrrrrrr you aaaaaare….” AAAGH! Get it out of my head!

I just want to take a minute and say how much I’m enjoying this season of Tiger Baseball! Despite having a slew of odd injuries and a bullpen that’s not nearly as effective this year, the Tigers are (as of tonight’s win) in first place in the division. The Cleveland Indians are a very good team, though, and the two’ve been neck and neck all season! The Tigers just made a couple of trades to improve the pitching, and as guys come off of the disabled list this season is going to get even more exciting!

Go team!

ZOMBIES!!

So, I’ve been reading a series of online novels – I’ve just discovered them, but they’re a couple of years old. Very fun, especially if you’re into zombies/end of the world type things! (One of the things that’s particularly fun is the first one takes place in Manhattan, right where I’m staying and working this month! I passed thru Times Square the other day and thought “Hey, there were zombies RIGHT THERE!”)

They’re called, in order, Monster Island, Monster Nation, and Monster Planet. The writer is David Wellington, and I like this trilogy of stories quite a bit. (Enough, in fact, that once I’m done I think I’ll be looking at his works that came after these.)

So – if you’re into that kinda thing, check it out!
