Rehearsals for OEDIPUS have begun!

We’ve started rehearsals for OEDIPUS at the Williamston Theatre – I think it’s going to be a really, really terrific piece.

I wrote bunch about it on the Williamston Theatre Journal, which you can find HERE!  There are a bunch more pictures there, and some more thoughts on the first rehearsal.

And, for fun, here’s a picture of the set in progress!

It’s got to seem inevitable…

Listening to the American Theatre Wing podcast of an interview/discussion with director/actor David Cromer, and I loved this quote about how he tries to shape a production:

"It’s got to seem inevitable…it’s got to seem immediate…every moment needs to come out of forces around it that force it to happen."

That’s a wonderful way to look at the flow of a piece, and at the connecting strands that propel us from moment to moment.

To hear the whole interview, go here, or check out other American Theatre Wing podcasts at Downstage Center or Working In The Theatre.

Curiosity

The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity.

Clearing a path…

I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving.
-Oliver Wendell Holmes

Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius — and a lot of courage — to move in the opposite direction.
-E. F. Schumacher

The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence.
