Well, okay, I saw the last (or 3rd, I guess, in chronological order) Star Wars movie. I’ll ruin if for ya if ya want. Wanna know? SPOILERS AHEAD:
Yep. Darth Vader is evil. Yes, he’s still Luke’s father. Luke and Leia are twins, separated at birth.
Oh, what? You already know all of that? Yeah, I did too. Which is kinda why I could only muster up a little bit of enthusiasm. I mean, some very cool stuff happens in the movie, but it’s often paired with some of the worst dialogue and stiffest acting you’ll find in any of the movies. “Hold me like you held my by the lake on Naboo…” Oh barf. Plus, the inevitable ‘prequel’ problem: we know how it’s all going to turn out. And it does.
Sure, some sweet fight scenes. I’m a big fan of puppet yoda, but CGI yoda swinging his lightsaber and wiping out bad guys is sweet as hell.
Yes, Natalie Portman is hot, and a good actor. Even she has trouble making some of the dialogue work.
Anakin wiping out the group of ‘younglings’, or the little kids who were training for a life as Jedi’s, was a big, bold stroke – very cool that they actually went that far.
Watching Anakin get turned into Darth is interesting, and the final fight with Anakin/Darth -vs- Obi-wan has an awesome ending (the whole thing being done over lava was just dumb, though. I mean…lava?)
Nice stuff, though, as the last moments happen and we find ourselves back on Tattooine, where the whole thing started way back when we were all many years younger, I actually was MOVED by the simplicity and sweetness of the movie. The final shot, of baby Luke being handed to his aunt and uncle, and seeing the house that we know he grew up in, and knowing all that was to come in the future for him – that was cool. That was moving.
So, overall, not bad. I was satisfied, if not blown away. Best of the new trilogy, for sure. I kinda want to watch episodes 4, 5 and 6 now, since I haven’t seen them in forever.
Anybody else see it? What’d YOU think?
Wtf was that
That had to be one of the worst scripts ever. The space battle at the begining and the closure at the end were the best parts of the movie. Then again if you think about the space battle its taking place over the capital planet and huge ships are crashing into it. But no one seems to notice or care. Maybe I’m just being critical I don’t know. What I don’t understand is were all the good reviews are coming from. Everything I’ve read or seen up until Tony’s post were all postive. Oh well at least its over. Sorry for the rant and I’m sure other people will love it. I guess I just had higher expectations.

Re: Wtf was that
I’m with ya, Spence. I didn’t hate it, and DO think it’s the best of the last 3. However, there were just so many bad acting/dialogue moments.
I mean, when Darth Vader first appears, breaking his way out of the operating ‘cuffs’, and shakes his fists to the sky shouting “Noooo!” because he’s heard of the Princess’ death was one of the worst moments ever. I giggled, and then felt embarassed for Lucas, James Earl Jones and whoever was in the costume at that moment doing the half-hearted wave of his fists. Bad, bad, bad.
Ah well, the moment before that where Obi-wan cuts off Anakin’s legs was pretty sweet. (Of course, the unanswered “Why the hell doesn’t he kill him right there?” was a little unsatisfying, but…ah well….lots to solve, and I think Lucas did a decent job, just not a great job. Of course, he’s got more money and success than I’ve ever gotten, so what the hell do I know?! 🙂
I agres it is the best of the three. Its just, I don’t know some charater devolpment might have been nice. Which again is something all the reviews have said is great. I just don’t agree. As an example the whole show anakin is walking around going boo hoo, boo hoo the world doesn’t like me. He then big surprise he kills the count when he shouldn’t. We get a moment of self reflection about that being wrong. The next thing you know he’s killing all the kidds with out even blinking.
I know the dark side is evil and all but that was pretty damm fast. Oh well. At least it was beautiful visually.

Serenity
Spencer-
Have you seen Firefly yet? Get the DVD’s, if not. I love it. Borrow them, buy them, whatever.
The movie of Firefly, titled SERENITY is coming in September, and I can’t wait!. I’m expecting it to be a far better film than Revenge of the Sith.
Seriously, if you get the chance, watch the dvd’s.
