Just journaling, a couple more thoughts…

-Feeling under the weather – physically, mentally, emotionally. Yesterday and today, just wiped out. Need more soup, sleep, tea and money, Need less sore throat, body aches, restless nights and bills.

-Despite feeling a bit blah, had a great Williamston Theatre Project staff meeting today. Continuing to move forward, our building is almost secured. WhooHoo! It’s very exciting to hear things like “As of January 1st, we’re probably moving in.” and the like. Looks like we’re going to start out with some small shows, and small seating, and spend a few productions testing the waters for audiences and financing. I’m working quite a bit on this stuff, now, and will probably be journaling a lot of it soon.

-A cool thing; I was talking about how much I’d enjoyed Sarah Vowell’s book The Partly Cloudy Patriot, and Jeanne said “Oh, hey! Wait a minute!” and ran to her bookshelf. Sure enough, on her shelf was a Sarah Vowell book she’d been sent by the local NPR station (WUOM, 91.7), for donating to their last fund drive. So now, I have a copy of Take the Cannoli, and it’s even signed by the author!

-I think it’s amazing that, no matter how good a day you’re having, being reminded of a betrayal by a friend or group of people you thought were friends can completely change your mood for an entire day. On the flip side of that, you can be in an absolutely lousy mood, and have your gray skies parted by having one of your kids run up and, unprompted, jump on you saying “Snuggle time!” and then with a big contented sigh snuggle into your lap. We’re fickle creatures, we humans. Or is it just my Italian/Scottish nature coming out: Quick to jump from emotion to emotion, and slow to let go of a grudge!

  1. Wow are we living parallel lives or what?? I am not reading a Sarah Vowell book right now-although I would like to borrow those books-but I am feeling under the weather and I am so quick to jump to emotion!! O

      • hey that was like instant messaging!! Tracy got your messsage and relayed it to me. Thank you so much! That was very kind of you. My own husband didn’t call me to say best wishes!!!! Oh well….he did buy me pizza as a midnight snack.

  2. oppps…that posted accidently before I was done…what I was going to say is that I guess we arn’t really leading parallel lives really because I wasn’t at a Williamston Board meeting and I don’t have kids either…..so it is really just the emotional thing and the under the weather thing I guess….
anyway-I wanted to tell you-and it’s too late to call again tonight- that this show at school is kicking my ass and if we could postpone coffee until next week that would be awesome. Sorry to postpone again….I promise next week will be better (she typed hopefully). I have lots to tell you!!
p.s. I am so glad that you mentioned the Sarah Vowell “Incredibles” and This American Life connection….I KNEW her voice was familiar!

    • It was like instant messaging, wasn’t it?! I’m up working on WTP budgets, and have the webpage open, and had just checked it!
Next week is great for coffee – just let me know!
And I hope you feel better – just think, the show’ll be over soon! 🙂
(I’m working on bringing the kids on Sunday, by the way!)

  3. Someone else on my friends list mentioned Sarah Vowell today.
I’m sorry to hear your under the weather.
    I know how you feel.
Work was sucktastic tonight. Crap rehearsal.
    Kids getting on my nerves.
    gah!

    • LOL – the word “sucktastic” makes me laugh every time I hear it, because it so fits what it’s trying to say.
Yeah, I’m becoming a big Sarah Vowell fan! Hey, speaking of books, Christine mentioned to me that she’s now trying to get through that Buffy book quickly, so she can get it back to me, so I can get it to YOU! So, I’ll try and do that someday soon!

        • It runs thru Christmas Eve. They’ve added some Saturday matinee shows, because it’s selling well. Unfortunately, Paul Hopper can’t do them, so his understudy will be doing the added matinees. Still, nice that they’re selling well.
I’m going tomorrow (Friday) night to see it again, haven’t been since we opened, so I thought I’d drop in. I’d love to hear your thoughts after you see it!

  4. Mood moments
I know what you mean about how your mood can turn on a dime. Yesterday I had an audition in the morning that I thoroughly enjoyed. They gave us sides and the reader was quite good. So for thirty seconds I was a soldier’s wife awaiting his arrival home from the second world war. It was lovely being in a whole other world with a perfect stranger. I kicked ass, too. I left feeling like I was flying a little.
Then I go to visit my friend in the hospital and she was utterly despondent over the way the nurses were treating her. I sat on her bed and held her hand and just cried with her over how mean people can be to each other. It’s particularly discouraging to see that in a place where the primary function is to care for people in need. In any case, I spent a good part of the day with her and she was feeling chipper enough by the end of the day that I felt ok leaving her for the evening.
So then I saw The Great American Trailer Park Musical. It was a hoot!!! At the end they did the yearly ask for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. They auctioned off a signed poster and as the bids went up they kept adding things to the kitty – cases of moon pies, signed CDs, one of the cast members kept doing cartwheels. In the end two people coughed up $500 each for a good cause and walked away with a bag full of fun memorabilia. It restored my faith that people can, indeed, be good to each other. It was a really fun experience too.
In a city of 8 million people who are very skilled at avoiding eye contact, it’s nice to look into a strange pair of eyes and see them smiling back at you.
God, where did all that come from? She what you started, Tony??? Talk to you soon.
    Kisses,
    Em

How nice to leave an audition feeling good about it! Bummer to hear that the nurses with your friend, though. Ick.
I’ll have to look around for the script/music to that show! I don’t know it, I’ll look up and see if it’s brand new, available, or what the scoop is.
Glad to hear the BC/EFA thing went well, too, such a good cause.

Cripes, Tony, don’t your friends have your email address? What’s up with the 20 posts?
Hey I had an audition the other day for Kelloggs something or other. It sucked and so did I!
I think this summer we should do a short run of either Star Wreck or USS Improvise at WTP. You and me play dueling Kirks every night.
look at this photo of me at the Channel101 awards show.

        Bye.

          NICE Cow Vest!!
That’s actually a good look for you.
How did the awards go?! Is there a list of winners at Channel101.com? Who’s the bearded guy who looks a little like me, but not enough to make the women go crazy? (Excellent choice to NOT have a beer with you, like the guy who wishes he was me does!)
