The play’s the thing…

A busy few days for the Williamston Theatre Project. Our Board Meeting on Tuesday went very well. A great group of people, we’ve only got 5 of the 9 we’re hoping to end up with. (Well, that didn’t come out right – we’ve got 5, we’d like to keep building and get to 9, but we want to use the board to help gather the last 4.)

Speaking of WTP, like my new userpic? That’s our logo (or the part without the name of the place!)

So, for those interested, here’s a picture of the front of the building that we’re in the process of acquiring. Very, very excited about it.

It’s the tan building with the red awning. This shot is from a couple of months ago!

And, since we’re posting pics (we?), here’s one of the WTP Board and Staff after our first meeting!

(Minus me, since I’m the one taking the shot with the lousy camera on my Palm!)

Also, on Thursday we spent the day in Lansing, at the Cool Cities conference. Cool Cities is the name of the program that Governor Granholm has instituted that’s all about using the arts to revitalize downtowns in Michigan. WTP will be applying, with the city of Williamston, for a Cool Cities grant this year. Getting some grant money would be awfully nice!

Some great, inspirational speakers and a couple of very useful discussion sessions made it a very useful day. Spoke for a while with an amazing woman named Donna Walker-Kuhne who was extremely insightful, helpful and encouraging.

So, things are moving forward. We’re playing with some fun, interesting online tools for marketing and such, too; director and actor blogs for each rehearsal process; designer/director discussions online about the upcoming/current show; pictures of discarded designs, with explanation; having a space on the website for each show that would function almost like a “Special Features” section on a DVD. Who knows if anyone would actually be interested in that stuff, but it’ll be worth finding out! Now all I need is to be able to do the shows!!

    Hey Buddy,
Congrats. This is all so exciting. I love the building–even through a picture it has a really good feel to it. Seriously.
Glad it’s all going so well. We’ve got to get together soon for coffee. I’m just finishing up the new work and I think I’m gonna do a reading of it some time in January. I’ll let you know when.
    warm gooey feelings,
    Annie
