A nice evening…

My friend Duncan is the Brewmaster at Grizzly Peak Brewing Company in Ann Arbor. The Brewmaster is, of course, the head brewer – he’s the guy who makes the variety of beers that the brewing company sells. Well, the Grizzly Peak is one of the more popular brewing companies in the area, and they specialize in several spectacular beers, as well as an unbelievably good Cheddar and Ale Soup. (A bowl of that, with their fresh bread to dip, is one of the best cold-weather meals you can get in the state!) Duncan also makes a variety of special beers that they serve on their ‘rotating tap’ througout the year, often experimenting and coming up with great tasting beers that he’ll just make a couple barrels of and sell ’til it’s gone.

Well, he called me and said he’d named his latest specialty beer after me!

Jeanne and I went this evening to sample some Bitter Tony’s Rye Bitter! (Named, I found out, because I once said to him “I’m a bitter man, Dunc!”) πŸ™‚ We had a great time, the beer and soup were marvelous!

A lovely pic of a lovely beer.

A poorly lit pic of me with a lovely beer. Hmmm…I look almost serious in this picture…couldn’t tell ya why! *shrug*

Also, after that we went and saw our friend Deborah Solo do a set of songs. She does shows at coffee houses and clubs in and around Ann Arbor quite a bit, and is a marvelous young woman with a marvelous voice! She’ll be graduating from UofM soon, and I’m hoping she lands a big fat recording contract somewhere so she can donate a bunch of money to the Williamston Theatre Project!

So, the kids are having fun spending the night at a friends house, Jeanne and I had good beer, good food, and good music. In the morning we’re meeting Duncan and his wife Ann for brunch at Zanzibar, where they have one of the best brunches ever invented.

Yep, lovin’ life.

  1. OoOoOoooH! *bounces*
You bitter? naah! How exciting, I’ve never had anything named after me *blank stare*. That picture of the sign should be your new icon!
    *brief bounce again*
The soup sounds fabulous. And bread…..mmmmm carbs. *bounces*
What a wonderful night it sounds like you had. Excellent!

  2. Deborah Solo is graduating!?!?!??!
Oh my God, that makes me feel old.
When we did Corky, she was a senior in high school!!!
I love her voice!!! You’ll have to let me know the next time she plays out, I wanna go and see her!!!
Of course, I am big on thinking of things that I want to do, but when it comes time to actually leave the house, er…not so much.
Guess I’m a hermit at heart.
    But wow.
    Life moves fast.

    • I know! Jeanne and I worked on some school plays with her when she was in, I think, 6th grade – so think how old WE feel! πŸ™‚
Actually, she has 3 semesters to go – she’s gonna be in an Australian exchange program all of next semester, then two more semesters at UofM.
And, she has 2 shows coming up – one on Dec 15, and one on Dec 17. Check out http://www.deborahsolo.com for more info!

  3. A special message from Mike
This explains why Duncan left me a message yesterday. It’s been about a month since the last time he called. I wondered to myself, “Hmn, Duncan called. He couldn’t have come up with the idea by himself, his frontal lobe isn’t developed enough. Perhaps if certain circumstances created similar conditions to when I was around it might stir old memories and emotions.” I stopped by your gay-ass (your words, not mine) website and by jigger, the answer is right in front of me Huzzah!

    • Re: A special message from Mike
      *maniacal chuckling*
His frontal lobe IS TOO developed…sometimes it just needs re-starting, is all. So sometimes I sneak up on him in his sleep and say things like “Hey, remember to call your friends…” or “Bring me free beer” or “You don’t need to see his identification. These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.”
“Gay-ass”? If I’ve ever used those words, it was probably about the way your fine ass looked in a pair of jeans. But don’t hold me to that.
      (Bonus Points for “Huzzah”.)

  4. wow! I am truly impressed. How many people can say they have a beer named after them. Eric and I will have to go and enjoy a pint. And some of the soup and bread-thank alot for giving me a craving!!!
