Okay, Lost was GREAT this week. Mr. Eko’s backstory was really well done, one of the more interesting of the whole show. That first scene where he shoots the guy to save his brother from having to do it was beautifully done – just painful to watch. And how cool was the “spirit” of the island, or whatever we’re going to call the smoke that came after Eko?! Clearly, it’s the same thing we’ve seen before, but we got to see this time that there were flashes of his past inside it – things from his mind? (I’m thinking there was some kind of experiment that went wrong, it’s to do with time, or something, and now all these people who’s fates are tied together are being pulled here by it…or at least, that’s my current theory. It could also all be a dream that Hurley’s having while sleeping on the plane, for all I know!)
As briefly mentioned, the WT Open House went really well. We spent all day organizing and cleaning and getting the place ready. We were really hoping that people would come, but had no idea if anyone would. Several times I said “Man, I hope we get at least 30 people or so” and Christine said “They’ll come. I think they’re gonna come!” And did they ever! It was scheduled to start at 6:30, but around 6:10 a few people started wandering in! Before we knew it, the place was packed, and people came and went all night! It was supposed to end at 8:30, we had people there until almost 9:30! Around 120 people wound up coming, which was amazing. We had so many people telling us how excited they were for us to be there, and asking when they could get tickets to a show, and telling us their favorite plays to see, and how they’re so glad they have a company like ours close to them now! It was very humbling, but very inspiring, to get such a good response!
On Wednesday, the day before our event, the ladies from the local coffee shop came over and said “Hey, do you guys want coffee for your Open House? We could bring some dispensers over, and cups and cream and sugar and stuff, if you like?” It was great, they just donated a bunch of stuff – and then got good business as people wandered from our Open House over to their coffee shop! They’re gonna do it for the rest of the Open Houses, too!
AND, while we were setting up on Thursday Dave Feirtag, the General Manager of The Red Cedar Grill (one of the fabulous restaurants right next to us) came over and said “Hey, our carrot cake is one of our most popular desserts – why don’t I bring over a bunch of slices for you guys to pass out?” It was really great – people ate all of the baked goods that volunteers had made, drank coffee, water or lemonade, ate awesome carrot cake, mingled and toured and chatted and had a good time! One of our supporters, Gwen, came in with a bunch of candles and a centerpiece for the table, so we had a beautiful spread!
Now we’ve just gotta capture this momentum and ride it! I think we can! John, Chris and Emily are all working their butts off, (I’m mostly napping), and the future looks bright! Now if I could only win the lotto…
Hey, my son is good at math!! So good that the school called and said “We’re going to put Max in an advanced math workshop, so once a week when we’re doing math in his regular kindergarten class, we’re going to pull him into a separate group that’s doing more advanced math. Is that okay with you? Would you like to be one of the volunteer parents helping facilitate it?”
I said to the woman on the phone “Max is good at math? MY son Max?” She laughed, and I said “YES! Something else good that he got from his mother!”
I also agreed to come in and help once a month with the group, but warned her “Jeanne is the smart one in this family – math isn’t my specialty!” and she said “Well, it’s advanced for MAX, but it’s still kindergarten math – I’m pretty sure you’ll do okay!”
I’d better study up.
Awww..lol…kindergarten math 😉 I think even *I* could do that 😉
Volunteering at a school…well, it’s amazing. I did it for college and had a BLAST. Mine were 3rd graders. If I didn’t work full time, I’d do it more. Maybe I should see if work would let me off early one day a month.
That sounds a lot like when the school called me and told me how great my son sang. I was like… Mine? Hehe well, the gene must have skipped a generation 😉
I decided not to watch Lost but from what I hear, it’s a BIG big thing.
Have a great Saturday!
Yeah, LOST is pretty cool. It, like every other fad, will fade eventually, but it really is one of the cooler drama/sci-fi’ish kind of shows on the air right now!
Hope your tript was great!
ok. seriously. everything about this post makes me so happy. (i feel like i leave you this comment or some form of this comment all the time…)
I love it whenever you write anything, Wa-Louisa! How’s New York treating you? I want details!!
Study up, tony, study up!
I asked my second grader for help – she’s gonna do a little work session with me! 😉
John, Chris and Emily are all working their butts off, (I’m mostly napping),
Don’t all Artistic Directors do that?? 😉
And Math? Yeah, I suck at it too…..
All Artistic Directors? Yeah, we actually have a secret napping club. Don’t tell anyone, or you’ll get blacklisted.
