“This is one of those periods”, you ask, “One of those testing times, isn’t it?”
“How committed are you?”, asks the Universe.
“Very”, you respond, “But I need to pay my bills.”
“Bit off more than we could chew, did we?”
“We set big goals, but there’s no success without risk.”
“Risk?” counters the Universe, “And now you’re afraid?”
“Afraid?” you blurt, “Who’s not afraid? We’re ALL afraid. Fighting through it is what we all do every day.”
“So deal with it, hero.”
“But things aren’t coming together as fast as I need them to.”
“Just do your best and trust.” intones the Universe in an annoyingly sage tone.
“Yes, but I need this to work. And I need to pay my bills.”
“Bills? Aren’t you an artist? What of your dreams? Your goals?”
“Dreams?”, you say, “Dreams don’t feed my children. Reconcile that, Mr. Universe. Cuz I can’t yet.”
“Is it about the money, really? Or is it pride? You could get a job at Taco Bell.”
“Not and make the theatre happen. Not and see my family. Not and feed my family.”
“So you have to eliminate one of those, then. Which one?”
“None!” you proclaim.
“What do you want?”, sighs the Universe, bored already with the conversation.
“Everything.”
“Sorry” says the Universe, “It’s taken.”
“Then what’s left!?”, you yell.
“What you make, of course.”
“That’s the wisdom you’ve got for me?!” you yell louder.
“What you make…” says the Universe, it’s voice getting softer as it fades away, “…and don’t yell at me.”
Tony- what beautiful writing.
I am rooting for you.
I know the fear of which you speak.
Thanks, Kate.
When you’re in Texas schmoozing with the rich oil barons, send money. π
dude, everything’s cheaper in Texas, including salaries.
I’m just praying that I can find a job that will allow me to pay the minimum on my gargauntuan debts.
*cries*
oops
that was me talking about Texas.

I had a feeling that was you – don’t worry, Deep In The Heart of where you’re headed is your next big step! It’ll be great!
Man, I think you and I had the same day yesterday. I love hearing your optimism come through even in the face of impossible decisions.
Thanks Jesse. Hope your day is better!
theatre is so lucky to have people like you.
Oh Pshaw. Thanks Wa-Lou!
Hope things are good with YOU!
Go tony!!! go get everythiing!!!! And it’s ok to yell at the universe…as long as it doesn’t yell back. That’d be loud, and I’d be deaf!
π I’ll try and watch the volume.
