Inching ever closer…

So, I get this email.
From this fantastic guy, Tim. He’s great. He’s volunteered a huge amount of time and energy to Williamston Theatre, in particular in the “helping us with the building” department. He’s been a go between with the architect, he’s done a bunch of drawing/design work and helping us solve building code issues and deal with a ton of things that just left my little tiny brain spinning.
So I get this email from him:

Hi Tony. Hope you don’t mind – I had some fun in the computer with your theatre (see attached images). It was a good excuse to see if I had any 3D skills still left in a graphics program. I took some artistic liberties (seat style/color, light grid, eliminated walls for visibility, etc.), but the overall layout is essentially the same as the the full build-out. Don’t count the number of seats … I left a few out. πŸ™‚

And with that email were these awesome 3D renderings of what our theatre will look like soon.
I’ve seen the blueprints, I’ve seen the drawings – we’ve been going over versions of them for weeks.
But here’s our space.
In 3D.
And it’s really inspiring.
I mean, there it is.
Soon, we’ll be producing plays there. I’ll be directing there. People will come see our shows there.
Is it done yet? No.
Are we packing the house and paying our bills and making the difference we want to yet? No.
But those things will come.

I mean, look at this place – the potential. The promise. The possibilites.

Man, I’m excited!

  1. So what’s this slackers problem? No lobby? No green room? Where the heck are people going to go to the bathroom?
    NICE WORK! That looks fantastic!
“It was a good excuse to see if I had any 3D skills still left in a graphics program.”
    Please, I can’t even make a square…
I’m ready for opening night! I’m aactually going to dress up! Yessir, new jeans on opening night, maybe even a new Metallica T-shirt!
Hey, when are we building that wall anyways?
    Dom

    • Ooooh – new jeans and a new Metallica t-shirt!? Dude, it’s just a theatre opening, the Pope’s not coming to town.
More info to come on the wall. Got contractor guys lined up – waiting on License approval.

    • They’re so fun to look at!
Well, if you’re a big geek like me who’s involved in the project.
*I* Can sit and look at them for hours. I may be the only one! πŸ™‚

  2. I think you’ll need a ceiling there– otherwise the accoustics are gonna SUCK! πŸ™‚
Congratulations on all your progress– it’s going to be beautiful.

  3. How cool!
Wow, that’s awesome! They are very cool to look at! I like how your friend says he wanted to see if he had any skills left. I’d say so! ha ha
    It looks….real.

    • Re: How cool!
Yep, I think they’re very cool! Nice and intimate, nobody’s too far away, and as my Lighting Designer friend Dana said, the proportions of audience to stage are nicely balanced! Hooray!

  4. Sweeeeeeeet!
wow Tony – I remember how cool it was every time we’d get an updated blueprint of the Network, and then again as we saw all the pieces being built.
I can’t wait to come see the space when it looks like that!
and don’t worry – you’ll all be selling out shows very soon.

    • Re: Sweeeeeeeet!
Thanks d-wo. Yeah, we’re having a great time. It’ll be greater when we have a show up, people are making enough money to pay their bills, and all of the REAL headaches begin. But it’s pretty freakin’ great right now, too! πŸ™‚

  5. Cool!
It feels more real every day! The funds will come from some where.
Don’t give up, my brave hairy little man!
    I love you!
