I have to admit, I’m disappointed by the new Direct TV Commercials.
You know the ones, where they use footage from Back to The Future and Star Trek to pitch how great Direct TV is?
They’re right here:
This is Star Trek
This is Back To The Future
I HATE the fact that they took scenes from these movies, got the big star who was in the scene, and re-shot a few seconds to make it look like the character steps out of the scene and sells us on Direct TV.
I know, I know, nothing is sacred in the entertainment industry, it’s all about the money, blah blah blah…but come on! And YES, I understand they’re “FUN”, yes it was fun to see Captain Kirk on the bridge of the Enterprise…but I can see that when I watch the movie! (I am entertained by the fact that William Shatner said in an interview that they’d used computer graphics to slim him down and smooth out some wrinkles so he’d look like the Kirk in the movie, not pudgy, like William Shatner does now!)
So, that’s my complaint. I feel like a curmudgeon saying it, but too bad. I know, it’s just a movie! Still… I can’t help but feel like one little part of life that was dear to me has been taken away, peed on, and given back.
*grumps off, puts soapbox away, walks uphill 5 miles both ways*
I agree. I was pretty freaked out by the Back to the Future one. I LOVE that movie. So curmudgeon on I say ya ol’ fart!!!
Yeah, the BTTF spot was a bummer. I of course, as a card carrying Trekker, was appalled to see Captain Kirk schilling Direct TV from the bridge of the Enterprise. FROM THE BRIDGE OF THE ENTERPRISE, FOR GOD’S SAKE!! Oh the horror, the horror. It mostly made me want to punch somebody at Paramount, for giving permission for that to happen! 🙂
It’s a bit like hearing a Beatles song in a commercial for laundry soap. Some things just shouldn’t be done – but boy do they keep happening.
I KNOW!
Of course, without advertising, we wouldn’t have TV, but still…they shouldn’t be mushed together!
I don’t like DirectTV. Ever since they said we didn’t ship back their equipment and refused to give us a refund even though FedEx LOST it and ADDMITTEDLY told us so and it took us 6 months to get our money! So continue on my friend!
Boooooo for Direct TV. Even if I had liked them, I wouldn’t anymore. They made Captain Kirk a sellout! *laughing*
Aaaah, but God help me, I do love me some William Shatner!
Speaking of Mr. Shatner, you’ll be pleased to know that for the past week patrons have stayed after the show long enough for the entire post-show CD to play out. So Will’s version of “Lady is ze Tramp” has played all this week!
*pssssstttt*
That’s awesome! 🙂
