Unbelievable

This is horrifying.

Staff members of an elementary school staged a fictitious gun attack on students during a class trip, telling them it was not a drill as the children cried and hid under tables.

I do not understand where common sense goes when these decisions are made.

Here’s another version of the story, with more details. Read the sidebar on the right, with one of the descriptions of the event where the teachers laugh at the kids.

I cannot blame the parents for being outraged, I would be too. Hell, I am outraged, and my kids weren’t involved! If it had been one of my kids I can tell you that I’d be doing everything I could imagine to get those idiots responsible fired from their jobs immediately.

How are those kids supposed to trust those teachers and staff members ever again? I mean, you want to do a drill? Fine, do an emergency drill. Do a tornado drill. Do a fire drill. Do a lock-down drill. But to terrorize 11 year old kids?

Unbelievable.

      • I know. I would love to have been a fly on the wall when the teachers thought of this “prank”. I can’t believe there wasn’t ONE person who thought it might be a bad idea!!
When I told Lupe about it, he got super pissed off.
        Crazy stuff.

  1. As a teacher, I find what they did to be incredibly insensitive and against all we are taught. As a person who was a junior in high school when Columbine happened, I would have been terrified had my teachers done this a few weeks after. At 16, I would have been terrified: let alone at 13 or 14. Here I am, terrifying my family and friends whenever a school shooting happens by saying that I would take a bullet for my students and here these teachers are doing this?!? I am beyond shocked, beyond flabbergasted. I need a new word for what I am.

  2. …people really did this?…you know, i’m usually a pretty understanding type of guy, but this is one of those instances where the absolute maliciousness and irresponsibility of authority figures deserves retribution equal to their own insensitivity…

    • I wonder what would happen if THEY were pinned down in a room with people threatening to come in and kill them for a while…and then told “Oh, nope. Just kidding.”
Somehow I think they’d be a little pissed off.

  3. Did anyone notice this guys comments underneath the story? Scary….so we should spend time in school teaching elementary kids to what???? Arm themselves and have gun practice at a firing range??!!!!
    here are the guys comments:
“Please allow me to point out a couple of facts that seem to be missed.
    1. ANY rational human being WOULD be terrified under such circumstances. The unfortunate reality is that our system teaches that terror/fear PREVENTS taking action.
In a healthy society, these children would have been taught to put the fear aside for the moment and take ACTION to defend or protect themselves rather than cowering as sheep to the slaughter.
    2. Given the general political world view of the American Left, this wasn’t a FAILURE on the part of the education system, but a major VICTORY.
These school “officials” have proven, beyond any doubt, that the Liberal Indoctrination of our American School System WORKS. The children know NOTHING but the “You can’t do it yourself,” “Call the Authorities”, “Call the Government”, “Call 911”, “You ARE dependent” mind-meld of the Left. NEA and their compatriots have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams and RIGHT UNDER OUR NOSES.
    3. I absolutely agree that these “officials” should be removed. Point in fact, 80% of the education “administrative” population should be removed and not replaced. ”

    • Wow. And his suggestion is that we do what? Do away with all public education and the 911 system?
I find it hard to believe that most Americans, whether they’re conservative or liberal, “left wing” or “right wing”, would find those suggestions to be very realistic or helpful. While I agree – “Stand up for yourself!” is a good idea, I don’t think organizing 11-year-olds to rush a gun-wielding maniac is a particularly wise decision.

      • yeah I agree. I just cant believe there are people out there that feel that way. It seems so irrational and I like to think most people are rational. The first thing they tell you is not to fight back against someone trying to rob you or whatever if they have a gun.
