Outta my mind on a Monday Moanin’

Ah, Outta my mind on a Monday Moanin’…

That actually comes from a wonderful writer named Bob Talbert who wrote a column in Detroit for years. That was the title every Monday!

So catching up – a potpourri of stuff to just journal about.

-Back in the office today after a week of being away. Wow, there’s a lot to do! All good stuff though.

-A vacation, even a few days, can really re-energize you. I’m excited about work today!

-It’s Beatrix Potter’s birthday today, and Google has a neat reminder on their homepage!

-We had a great BBQ on Saturday, with a whole bunch of family. Lasted all day, deep into a bonfire with roasted marshmallows and s’mores! Yum!

-My whole body is sore. Saturday night, while the adults sat around the bonfire talking, my kids and their cousins dressed in black and skulked around the shadows of the yard, playing Ninja Spies. They kept sneaking up and stealing marshmallows, tickling people, etc… Of course, I somehow got roped into playing spy with them, so I spent a while playing Ninja Spy: running around the yard, crawling, diving into shadows and rolling around trying to avoid being seen by the folks at the fire. And now my body is angrily telling me “Look, either do that 3 times a week and get in shape, or don’t do it at all, cuz now you’re a big sore mess!” *laughing*

-So, trying to lose weight. Cut out starches, carbs and most red meat, and eating a lot more fruits and veggies. Trying to cut back on sugar, too, but that’s the hard one for me: I need sugar in my coffee, etc…)

No more time for potpourri entry right now. More will come.

  1. A tip for losing weight
As soon as I saw the title of today’s entry, two thoughts crossed my mind:
    (1) Ah, Bob Talbert! I miss his columns, especially his Monday edition…
    (2) How many people even REMEMBER Bob Talbert?
But it’s another topic of yours that caused me to write. If you’re serious about losing weight, cut out everything that has high fructose corn syrup in it. Soda, especially. (Once you start checking labels, you’ll be shocked at how much we eat has this junk in it!)
It’s not easy to remove from your diet, but you’ll notice a difference almost immediately.
I was diagnosed last year as borderline diabetic, and my doctor suggested I rid myself of HFCS, which I promptly did – and over a short period of time I dropped 10 pounds. (Walking a lot more helped, too!) And later test results have also been markedly improved.

    • Re: A tip for losing weight
Yep, I loved reading Bob Talbert too!
Good advice on avoiding the High Fructose Corn Syrup – thanks, Don! Not only will that help some weight loss, there’s a history of diabetes in my family so I’d like to avoid that, too! 🙂
Thanks for the link, also – good stuff!

  2. Put Splenda in you coffee, it works just as well. They even have little Splenda tabs, like the Saccharin ones Grandma used to use (remember those), just without the cancer.
    Dom

    • Yeah, that’s a good idea. Problem is, I keep trying it and I just don’t like the aftertaste Splenda leaves. Doesn’t that aftertaste bother you?
I may just start drinking coffee black, because that’s better than that aftertaste from Splenda, or Nutrasweet, or Sweet-n-Low, or any of those sweeteners I’ve tried.
      *sigh*
