Recreation

Thinking about “Recreation” – a couple different definitions in the dictionary:

1. Refreshment by means of some pastime, agreeable exercise, or the like.
2. Refreshment of one’s mind or body after work through activity that amuses or stimulates; play.

Both of those are interesting, and very telling. That’s certainly how I felt after our trip to Florida – refreshed. Fascinating that they both say “Refreshment” – the idea of refreshing one’s self through amusement or stimulation. Sounds a lot like theatre. This is a good quote for me to remember at work – In fact, the second definition even says “Play”! 🙂

The arts provide recreation for the soul.
Linda Mayrose

The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he’s always doing both.
James A. Michener (U.S. novelist and short-story writer, 1907?-1997)

What the heck?!

Will someone please tell the Detroit Tigers that Spring Training is over and it’s time to start hitting the ball? This 0-5 start sucks… and they’re down 9 to 2 in the 7th inning.

It’s only the first few games, but geez, what a disappointing start!

Some great family time

Although it seems like it’s just started, our 9 day family vacation is coming to a close. In a few minutes we’ll be unpacking, doing laundry and picking up the puppy from where she’s been staying with friends.
We’ve had a wonderful trip to Disneyworld, and several days visiting my parents at their winter home in Florida.

Jeanne’s been to Disneyworld, but it’s the first time for the kids and I, and what a great time we had!!

Too sleepy and busy to post much this second, but updates will come soon!

People are weird

Quote of the day:
Heard in passing from a woman at a flea-market…for it to have the right effect, though, when you say it in your head you have to be as angry and biting as you’ve ever been:
“Geez-oh-mercy! What am I gonna do with a duck key-chain that cost me FIFTY-CENTS?!?!”
Bwahahahahaha!!

Sunday

Baseball! The Major League season kicks off full force today and tomorrow. Let’s hope the Tigers lose their pitching and bullpen woes!

Spending some quality family time over this Spring Break. Yay! A lot of driving around, though – I’m done being in the car for a while!

Today we’re hanging out with some old friends and their kids – gonna be great to catch up!
