Random thoughts bouncing around my head…

Happy Birthday:
To Dominic, my little brother. 3 years younger than me, he’s cute as a muffin and hot as a biscuit; almost as good looking as me. Happy Birthday!

Also, Happy Birthday to Emily, Development Director of The Williamston Theatre Project.

Directing:
Jacob Marley is going well, the cast is great and we’re having a lot of fun. Moved out of the rehearsal space and onto the stage yesterday, and as expected found several things that need to be re-blocked to adjust to the space. Looking forward to adding the tech this weekend.

Family:
Wonderful. A little harried, because my schedule is now all crazy so we’re having to juggle a bunch of things and Jeanne’s being left holding the bag on a lot of things, unfortunately, as they’re starting parent/teacher conferences at her school, which is a crazy time for her.

TV:
Aaawwww, man. On The Amazing Race, the Gaghan family lost and got eliminated. They were awesome! This is “the family edition” and the Gaghans were a mom and dad in their early 40’s, and their two kids (Billy, 12 and Clarissa, 9). They rocked! So, now my favorite family from the show is gone! *sigh*

WTP:
Still waiting to hear back on our building bid. On Tuesday a bunch of detail discussions happened concerning the building, so that’s a good sign that we’re still moving forward!

Teaching:
Great. Class is a lot of fun, and I think they’re learning; we’re moving from ‘design’ to ‘directing’ next week. Also, I had to turn down an offer to teach another “Personal Management for the Artist” next semester, I’m just gonna be too busy – with WTP hopefully starting productions and going to Otterbein to direct, I can’t eat up 6 weekends teaching around that, unfortunately. I’m bummed, because I love being there and that class is fun to teach, but it’s the right thing to do if I’m gonna make WTP work and still see my family and fulfill the other obligations I’ve already agreed to.

Miscellaneous:
I was reading davidsmom76‘s latest post today and it made me think of the first time we took Maggie trick-or-treating. She was so little she could barely hold her basket with the candy, and she was dressed up as Winnie-The-Pooh. Oh, cute. She had such a great time! The best part, though, was that she couldn’t say “Trick-or-Treat” properly, even though she was trying – so no matter how much we coached her, she’d walk up to every house, set her basket down in front of the candy-giver, and proudly shout “Turkey Dick!”. Yep. Turkey Dick. Every. Single. House. It was hee-larious. People would giggle uncontrollably, or just look up at me with wide eyes, and I’d say “Yeah, um…we’re working on it.”
Oh, man. Now that same little kid is reading “Harry Potter” and thoroughly enjoying it…*sigh* Time Marches On.

That was just a little too sad. Clarissa was being so strong– I wanted to tell her parents “Let her cry!!” Grown people cry all the time when they lose on that show! Poor thing 😦 But they were a great great team and I’m sure she’ll get perspective and treasure the experience in the future. But in that moment– devastating.

I know! I wanted to give her a big hug, the poor thing. I was glad to see them all hugging each other, she needed it! I agree, it was a great experience for them, but how hard for a 9 year old.

  2. Man, I love your taste in music. I had the pleasure of seeing Crooked Fingers last year @ the blind pig opening for the Delgados and it was an amazing set, despite the lack of a backing band.

    • You know what, I don’t know their music as well as I’d like – I’d love to learn more. It’s funny, I found them because they did a cover of Prince’s song, When You Were Mine, and I’m a huge Prince fan. I dug up the song, and wound up loving it! The lead has a great voice. Any album recommendations?

    • Thanks for that, I appreciate it. I enjoyed teaching it, too. Unfortunately, I just need to not do it next semester or I think I’m gonna have too many balls in the air and some are gonna get dropped, and I hate that.
