Sunday night quotes: Inspiration

“Inspiration comes of working every day.”
Charles Baudelaire

“Most of life is routine – dull and grubby, but routine is the momentum that keeps a man going. If you wait for inspiration you’ll be standing on the corner after the parade is a mile down the street.”
Ben Nicholas

“We should be taught not to wait for inspiration to start a thing. Action always generates inspiration. Inspiration seldom generates action.”
Frank Tibolt

“You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.”
Jack London

“Inspiration may be a form of super-consciousness, or perhaps of subconsciousness – I wouldn’t know. But I am sure it is the antithesis of self-consciousness.”
Aaron Copland

Wednesday night wrap-up.

A good day – got some good work done, got a job offer that I can’t talk about yet, had a great dinner with my parents, my wife and my kids! (London Broil – yum!)

Lost was awesome! Wow, I loved this season premiere, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Rush Limbaugh is an idiot. Here he explains to us why he wants Barack Obama to fail.
Sure, in the middle of a huge economic crisis, and with wars on two fronts, having the President of the United States fail is a good plan. Moron. (I can understand wanting your own political party to be in charge, but come on…)

We have a new member of the Williamston Theatre family: His name is Willy, and he’ll be playing the role of Peter in our upcoming production.

Watching the inauguration

A couple of quotes that feel appropriate…

I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past.
-Thomas Jefferson

The best is yet to come.
-Robert Browning

We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter’s evening. Some of us let these great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nurse them through bad days till they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true.
-Woodrow T. Wilson

How long this upbeat, hopeful mood can be maintained throughout the country remains to be seen… but right now it’s a pretty amazing thing.

Interesting theatre poll… and a question!

Portland Center Stage has an interesting poll on their website:

I come to see plays to…

* to get wrapped up in an engrossing story (29%, 55 Votes)
* Laugh and escape for a few hours (27%, 51 Votes)
* to be challenged with new ways of thinking (22%, 42 Votes)
* to have a date night (11%, 21 Votes)
* to spend time with friends (7%, 14 Votes)
* to see my favorite actors perform (4%, 8 Votes)

Total Voters: 190

It’s a very informal poll, and I’m not sure if the questions are the kind I’d ask if I was trying to figure out what the audience wanted… but it’s interesting.

Maybe we’ll try something at Williamston Theatre’s website. Any thoughts on questions/answers that might be useful?

An exciting time: inaugurations, births and rehearsals!

I’m excited about this week we’re starting…

Barack Obama will be inaugurated – what a huge event. Whether you voted for him or against him, this historic moment is pretty incredible – I’m thrilled to be around to see it happen.

Slightly less historic, but of a lot of importance to me, are a handful of other things going on this week:

My kids will appear in a production of “The Sneetches” by Dr. Seuss – it’s part of a Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration. (The Sneetches, of course, is all about equality… in a nice Seussian way!)

Also, Williamston Theatre is in rehearsals for The Effect Of Gamma Rays On Man-In-The-Moon Marigolds, and after seeing the first read-thru last week, I’m incredibly excited about this production!

I’m in rehearsals for Hedda Gabler at M.S.U., and we’re having a great time. Laying down a basecoat with blocking and intent will take us through the end of next week, and then we’ll begin the really fun part of digging deep into what’s going on, and start layering all our colors and nuances over top of the basecoat – so far the cast and production staff have all been fabulous to work with.

Oh, next week I turn 40! Lots of folks keep saying “Ooooh, the big 4-OH!”, but I’m actually really excited about it! I’m hoping it’s the best year yet.

AND – I have a new nephew! Magnus Henry Caselli was born on Tuesday, he was a healthy 20 inches long, and weighed 8lbs, 2 oz. His name, Magnus, is a traditional Scottish name that my brother and his wife really like, and his middle name, Henry, was my Grandfather’s name (on my mom’s side). He’s cute as can be!

So, yeah. A good week to be around. 🙂

…like a headless chicken.

Sometimes, life is just silly;
Rehearsing HEDDA GABLER at Michigan State.
Producing GAMMA RAYS at Williamston Theatre.
Solving the at-home problem of our showering leaking (pouring) water into the basement.
Prepping for the next 2 productions at Williamston Theatre.
Planning a new series of things for Williamston Theatre.
Juggling the 237 little mini solve-me-this-week requests, events and emergencies laying on my desk.

Needed: 1 assistant to the Artistic Director. Position will be absolutely unpaid, ridiculously overworked, but will be really, really loved. *headdesk*

Yikes

Okay, my wife and I both like Anne Hathaway.
We both like Kate Hudson.
They’re both fine actors, and we’ve enjoyed the films we’ve seen them in.

So, we had Friday night free, and Jeanne wanted to see a chick flick movie, so I went with her to see Bride Wars.

Both of us regret this quite a bit.

You know how sometimes you see a trailer for a movie, and you think “Oh, it looks kinda dumb, but it’ll be cute.”

Yeah… sometimes that’s not true.
