Thursday Night Quotes: Choice

The self is not something ready-made, but something in continuous formation through choice of action.  -John Dewey

All the mistakes I ever made in my life were when I wanted to say No, and said Yes.  -Moss Hart

Tuesday – just for fun

I finally broke down and put one of those “stick figure families” on the rear window of my car…

20120828-133216.jpgYep, they’re zombies.

At the gas station yesterday, a couple on a motorcycle were also filling up their tank and they commented on the zombie family and how much they loved them, and it got me realizing that in the last few months I’ve gone from having no stickers or anything on my car at all to suddenly having 4.

Here are the others:
I’m an Apple fan…

And after my donation, I got this nice magnet to get us through election season:

Happy Tuesday everyone! I don’t know how YOU’RE spending it, but I’m starting rehearsals for boom, and I’m very excited!

Sunday Quotes and Rambling: Time

The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of 60 minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is.
C. S. Lewis

Well, season 6 at the Williamston Theatre has come to an end. In a few days, we begin our 7th.

That’s amazing to me. 6 seasons have gone by?! 36 productions?

Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.
Carl Sandburg

It feels like yesterday that John, Chris, Emily and I were standing in an empty furniture store that we had big plans for, amazed and excited, opening a bottle of champagne. I still have the cork.

You must have been warned against letting the golden hours slip by; but some of them are golden only because we let them slip by.
James M. Barrie

6 seasons. My kids have grown up in that time. Jeanne and I both hit the “20 Year” mark of being professionals in our field. My son started middle-school and joined the diving team! Holy cow – My daughter starts high-school in a few days! A thought to make my heart skip: in less time than the theatre has been open, she’ll be off to college.

Where has that time gone?!

Well, I type that question, and mean it, but I’m also okay with the answer – it has been well spent. It’s been 6 good years of love, family, work, friends, and a fair amount of challenges… and even some days I’d rather forget – just like anyone’s life. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.
Carl Sandburg

In the next few days, we launch into things that now we describe in short terms:

“Season 7”
“21st year of teaching”
“High School”
“7th Grade”

But in a year, all of those will have such different meanings to us all…
And we’ll look back and wonder how they went by so quickly.
And then we’ll start again.

We are time’s subjects, and time bids be gone.
William Shakespeare

Move forward.

Do what nobody else can do for you. Omit to do anything else.
-Henry David Thoreau

Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.
-William James

Do not weep; do not wax indignant. Understand.
-Baruch Spinoza

Do you want to know who you are? Don’t ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.
-Thomas Jefferson

A little R&R

Rest when you’re weary. Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit. Then get back to work.
-Ralph Marston

We had a terrific vacation. Camped at the BEAUTIFUL Wilderness State Park, on Lake Michigan.

More than just yearly rituals in which we connect with friends and family, vacations are also exercises in self-definition. In affording time away from the demands of everyday life, vacations disclose what people choose to do rather than are required to do.

A day trip to Mackinac Island for fudge, biking around the island and sightseeing was perfect.
