I’m incredibly excited about next season at the Williamston Theatre, and I’m in love with the logos for the upcoming shows! So, I thought I’d share them. I’ve added a blurb for each show, too, just for fun!

What’s going on in the fishbowl? What’s our place in the universe? And who is that woman playing the timpani!? This epic and intimate comedy spans billions of years and will keep you laughing ‘til the unexpected end!

Such a little thing isn’t likely to stop the old man, though, for he has a plan up his sleeve that he hasn’t shared with his two troubled companions – Miss Poole, the nurse assigned to his care, and Tim Cratchit, recently returned from war in America. Over the course of the evening, these two lost souls bear witness to events they do not fully understand as the spirit of Christmas descends on Ebenezer once again.

Ultimately, Shirley begins the process of shaping her life into something wonderful. This one-woman play became an instant classic the minute it premiered!

What happens when the universe decides our lives need a shaking up, whether we like it or not? Will Kathryn get drawn into the ridiculous comedy, drama, and potential romance swirling around her beloved waiting room, or will she burrow deeper into her seclusion from the world?

Tuna Does Vegas

Aral Gribble and Wayne David Parker reunite for the finale of our “Tuna Trilogy” as the lovable and eccentric characters from the ‘third smallest town in Texas’ as they take a rambling romp in Sin City. The hilarity begins when oddball-conservative radio host Arles Struvie announces on air that he and his wife Bertha Bumiller are heading to Vegas to renew their wedding vows…but everyone in Tuna, Texas goes along for the ride! is both an affectionate comment on small-town life as well as a hilarious satire of the same. The eclectic band of citizens that make up this town are portrayed by only two actors, making this send-up on life in rural America even more delightful as they depict all of the inhabitants of Tuna — men, women, Vegas showgirls, Elvis impersonators and more!

A Post of Good Theatre Things!

A quickie post about some Good Theatre Things:

I’m pleased to report that Ernie by Mitch Albom, the show I directed at the City Theatre in Detroit, has been extended again through August 12th!  Ernie, which opened April 28th, is a crowd-pleaser!  I was there this weekend and felt very blessed to sit and watch the sold-out crowd of nearly 400 people love the show from beginning to end.  Very proud of the cast, crew, staff and whole team.

The Williamston Theatre is honored to lead the Wilde Award Nominations this year!

The Wilde Award Nominations have been announced and the Williamston Theatre leads all the Equity theatres in the state of Michigan with a total of 10 nominations!! Our production of The Dead Guy received more nominations than any other production in the state! Here’s a complete listing of the Williamston Theatre’s nominations:

Pic Post Wednesday: New Shows, New Games, Family Time!

A good, busy week!

Had a great time with Max this evening. After Maggie and I grilled an awesome dinner (salmon, chicken, pork medallions, veggies), she and Jeanne went out dress shopping, so Max and I got some Dad/Son time: first, ice cream from Twisters.

Next, we wanted to play some games, and we had a new pack of expansion cards…

We also played a game of Ticket To Ride with the whole family, and then the kids were off to bed!

Lastly, Maggie and I saw this bumper sticker when we went grocery shopping, and it made us laugh… and then we spent the next 20 minutes rhyming things with “peanut”…

Some nice reviews for “The Understudy”!

“A love letter and a workplace comedy” – good review from Encore Michigan!

Lansing City Pulse says “Parker and Caselli crackle with mutual distrust and animosity that slowly morphs into warm respect. Both believe the other to be an inferior actor. Watching them prove otherwise to each other is a treat.” – read the whole review here!

The show is a “hilarious theatrical journey”, according to The Greater Lansing Ubiquitous Theatre Online!

More reviews to come, but the important thing is that audiences seem to be enjoying the show!

Family stuff!
Family birthday for my son: boy oh boy, he turned 12 quickly…
Here he can be seen modeling his birthday present from his big sister: Sunglasses with an attached moustache.

Since we had the whole family over, we took some family photos! I posted about family HERE, but this picture is fun: My kids, and my nieces and nephews. (Note: Many of them are wearing shirts my sister-in-law bought advertising “Crabby Frank’s Restaurant”. My dad’s name is Frank!)

My birthday is coming up… (in January). I’m also posting a pic of this shirt that can be purchased at zazzle.com. No connection between these two facts, just coincidence…

This weekend we tech The Understudy. Rehearsals have been a blast. Here’s a fun shot of the set a couple of days ago. Soon that big wooden structure will be covered with something very cool – I’ll post more later!

Lastly, my parents stayed with us for a few days… the other night we had a great time with 3 generations of the family sitting around the table playing a lot of Zombie Dice! A very fun game, it was a lot of fun to play with my wife, parents, and kids at the same time. What? You’ve never played Zombie Dice?! Check it out here. (And there’s an iPhone app for it, too!)

Now – more rehearsals. More family stuff. I hope your week has been as good as mine!

A Milestone, and Monday night quotes: The Universe Is Change…

This is a neat thing for me – I’m celebrating a milestone…

This week, I am celebrating 20 straight years of making a living in the theatre.

That’s a little amazing since, unless I stop to think about it, I’m pretty sure I’m still in my mid-20’s. 🙂 (Wait… Where did these gray hairs come from?!)

Start by doing what’s necessary, then what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.

I remember discussing college with my Dad, when I was in high school, and I told him that I wanted to go to school for theatre. I don’t think he was surprised (I’d been doing theatre all through high school), but I saw that look of Dadly worry in his eyes. All he said, though, was “Do you think you can make a living at it?”. I said I thought I could, and that was all he needed – he nodded, and said “Then your Mom and I will help any way we can.”

I’m incredibly grateful for that support, and I’m really proud to be able to show them a career where, for two decades, every job I’ve had has been theatre related. I truly, truly hope that Jeanne and I are able to respond to our kids like that when the time comes.

So, although I’m amazed that 20 years have come and gone, I’m also incredibly thankful, and grateful for the opportunities I’ve gotten, the people I’ve worked with, the lessons I’ve learned, and the stories I’ve helped to tell. Man oh man, I hope the next 20 are as fun the first 20 were!

Rehearsals have begun!

We’ve started rehearsals for The Understudy! It’s going to be a ton of fun, and a nice challenge. Recently I’ve concentrated so much on directing and producing, it’s been a long time since I was onstage. It’ll be great to stretch those muscles again, and to remind myself of the challenges of things that I, as a director, ask actors to overcome regularly!
